Ben Roethlisberger hailed the Steelers’ defense as one of the best he has ever played with after seeing what they did to the Giants on Monday night.
The unit intercepted Daniel Jones twice, fired the New York QB three times, and ran Saquon Barkley 15 runs back 6 yards in the 26:16 win at the season opener in Pittsburgh.
“They are unbelievable. Unfortunately I have to face them in practice every day,” Roethlisberger told reporters. “They’re one of the best defenses I’ve ever played with and I’ve played with some really good ones. I’m looking forward to being on the pitch with them.”
“As a quarterback you can play more freely because if you make a mistake you can count on them to save you and they have done it multiple times tonight and made sales and big stops, I just can’t say enough about the style how they play. “
One of the interceptions was the defensive tackle Cam Heyward on the goal line to end a 19-game Giants drive towards the end of the third quarter.

The Steelers allowed a total of 29 yards on the ground. Jones was the Giants’ leading rusher at 22 yards.
Roethlisberger completed 21 of 32 passes for 229 yards and three touchdowns on Monday night when he returned from an elbow injury that ended his 2019 season after just two games. The two-time Super Bowl winner is back for a 17th NFL season. After the injury, it was said that he could retire.
“I’m excited that we won the game. I told the guys before the game that it wasn’t about me. The reason I came back is for these guys, for this team,” he said. “It’s a special group of football players and men and that’s why I’m just grateful to be a part of it.”
