Blue Jay’s 2020 schedule: dates, occasions for Toronto’s revised common MLB season

MLB has revised its regular 2020 season to 60 games due to the global COVID 19 outbreak. The campaign is now scheduled to run from July 23 to September 27.

The Blue Jays, Canada’s only MLB club, will play all 60 games outside of Canada. The federal government in Ottawa refused to allow the club to play at the Rogers Center because of concerns about frequent cross-border trips between Canada and the United States.

Where Toronto will play their home games was finally clear on the day the season kicked off on July 24 and less than a week before the home game on July 29. The club announced that it will play most of its home games at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, New York, home of the Triple A member of the Jays.

The Jays announced two days later that their first “home game” would be on August 11 against the Marlins.

The club had an agreement with the pirates to play in PNC Park in Pittsburgh just to deny entry to the state of Pennsylvania.

As for the schedule itself: The Jays will compete in a new format against the other teams in AL East (40 games in total) and all five teams in NL East (20 games). This means that a team that is still in the development phase will only take a few breaths, even though it has added several experienced starting pitchers in the off-season (Hyun-Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark, Chase Anderson).
