We still don’t know much about the NFL, be it in terms of workload, matchups, or consistency. Even so, most fantasy football owners believe that after two weeks they will know everything, and so they make questionable decisions that can make or break their week. Fortunately, we’re here to help you with level-headed Week 3 line-up tips (and DFS tips) that take into account not only all of the stats and trends, but also all of the injuries that devastated so many teams over the past week.
Yes, injuries were the predominant act after Week 2 and that carries over to Week 3. A large number of fantasy stars have already been banned, and many more major contributors are considered “questionable” on the way to the weekend. Kenny Golladay (thighs), Cam Akers (ribs), Jamison Crowder (thighs), A.J. Brown (knee), Davante Adams (thigh), Phillip Lindsay (toe), Michael Thomas (ankle) and George Kittle (knee) top this group and it will undoubtedly add more to the list as we get closer to kick-off.
WEEK 3: Sleeper | Busts
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who to Start: Quarterbacks
Patrick Mahomes, Chefs (at BAL), Lamar Jackson, Ravens (against KC), Dak Prescott, Cowboys (at SEA), Russell Wilson, Seahawks (against DAL), Josh Allen, Bills (against LAR), Kyler Murray, Cardinals ( against DET), Matt Ryan, Falken (against CHI)
Cam Newton, Patriots (versus LV). Newton gets his best matchup ever for running and downfield passing at home.
Aaron Rodgers, Packers (at NO). Keep rolling with this obsessed passerby.
Ben Roethlisberger, Steelers (v HOU). He has a high floor and has proven to be pretty close to a nice ceiling because of his health and weapons.
Drew Brees, Saints (v GB). He was a little underchallenged, but Rodgers, on the other hand, should fire him home on Sunday night.
Gardner Minshew, Jaguars (v MIA). The mustache is back with more fantasy relevance. He is involved in the new offensive and has another nice matchup.
Tom Brady, privateer (at DEN). This may feel like a trap on the road, but the Broncos pass defense stutters all over the field.
Ryan Tannehill, Titans (at MIN 5,900 USD at DraftKings, 7,400 USD at FanDuel). The teams continue to sell out to stop Derrick Henry and open things up for Tannehill who got to the point. The Vikings stink in the backend and they will be desperate and come out first to feed Henry.
Mitchell Trubisky, Bears (v NYG, $ 5,700 at DraftKings, $ 7,500 at FanDuel). Trubisky has to keep throwing on the other side of Ryan, and nothing can stop the Falcons defenses in the air.
Baker Mayfield, Browns (against WAS), Ryan Fitzpatrick, Dolphins (at JAX)
WEEK 3 PPR RANKING:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide receiver | Narrow end | D / ST | Kicker
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who sits: Quarterbacks
Deshaun Watson, Texan (AT PIT). Watson is disappointing as QB1 in the top half after two bad matchups. Here’s a third one so you can go elsewhere with a high-end backup option.
Carson Wentz, Eagles (v CIN). The Eagles will stay on the ground trying to score any kind of victory and the Bengals will let that happen. Wentz should be low in volume and still carry a small uptrend through its dips.
Matthew Stafford, Lions (at ARI). He doesn’t get much help and it’s hard to trust him in a desert quarterback trap.
Joe Burrow, Bengals (at PHI). The eagle rush to pass will have fun with its pass protection and reduce its effectiveness.
Jared Goff, Rams (at BUF). This is a bad cross-country matchup for QBs with a limited ceiling and questionable floor.
Philip Rivers, Colts (at NYJ). The Colts should be pretty heavy again at home to take out a weak opponent.
Daniel Jones, Giants (versus SF). Jones won’t have Saquon Barkley (knee) and Sterling Shepard (toe) is unlikely to be available against this still strong defense.
Teddy Bridgewater, Panther (at LAC), Derek Carr, Raiders (at NE)
WEEK 3 STANDARD RANKINGS:
Quarterback | Run back | Wide receiver | Narrow end | D / ST | Kicker
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who sits: Running Backs
Ezekiel Elliott, Cowboys (against SEA), Dalvin Cook, Vikings (against TEN), Derrick Henry, Titans (against MIN), Alvin Kamara, Saints (against GB), Nick Chubb, Browns (against WAS), Joe Mixon, Bengals ( at PHI), Josh Jacobs, Raiders (at NE), Clyde Edwards-Helaire, Chiefs (at BAL), Austin Ekeler, Chargers (against CAR), Aaron Jones, Packers (at NO), Kenyan Drake, Cardinals (DET), Todd Gurley, Falcons (CHI), Chris Carson, Seahawks (DAL), Miles Sanders, Eagles (CIN), Jonathan Taylor, Colts (NYJ), James Conner, Steelers (vs. HOU)
David Montgomery, bears (at ATL). A year later, he lives up to his rookie hype thanks to better running skills and better blocking.
James Robinson, Jaguars (v MIA). Robinson is treated like the lead cat, and the newcomer can get into a weak front.
Kareem Hunt, Browns (versus WAS). He and Nick Chubb are the centerpieces of their offense.
Leonard Fournette, privateer (at DEN). The backcourt was usurped by him in week 2 and the Broncos were unable to slow down either Derrick Henry or James Conner.
Mark Ingram and JK Dobbins, Ravens (v KC). The best way for the Ravens to steal this game at home is to take advantage of the Chiefs’ run defenses with strength and speed a la the Chargers.
Joshua Kelley, Chargers (versus CAR). Lock in Kelley for volume along with Austin disgust against a putrid run defense.
Sony Michel and James White, Patriots (v LV). The Raiders are struggling with power running and good setbacks and Nick Kwiatkoski may have to miss another game.
Myles Gaskin, Dolphins (at JAX). Well worth a try in deeper leagues with good volume.
Jerick McKinnon, 49ers (NYG $ 4,900 at DraftKings, 5,700 $ at FanDuel). First turn back for an elite assault while Raheem Mostert and Tevin Coleman battle knee injuries? Yes, please.
Mike Davis, Panthers (LAC $ 5,100 at DraftKings, $ 6,000 at FanDuel). The Chargers’ run defense has been improved, but Davis will again be busy doing Christian McCaffrey’s great reception work.

Fantasy Football Week 3 Who sits: Running Backs
David Johnson, Texan (at PIT). Hard to like him after a bad game against the Ravens that faces a tougher defense this week.
Melvin Gordon, Broncos (against TB). The Bucs run defense is better than you think and it won’t do the damage taken by Christian McCaffrey or Alvin Kamara.
Devin Singletary and Zack Moss, Bills (versus LAR). The matchup is pretty good, but this is a frustrating breakup from young backs, especially when Josh Allen cuts into their work.
Antonio Gibson, Washington (at CLE). The Browns’ run defense is much improved and visitors should throw often this week.
Ronald Jones, privateer (at DEN). Leonard Fournette kept pace with this Jones and passed him.
Adrian Peterson and D’Andre Swift, Lions (at ARI). This committee is so disappointing after Kerryon met Johnson in Week 2.
Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson, Rams (at BUF). Brown should play with his finger injury and make it cloudy even with Cam Akers (ribs) off.
Frank Gore, Jets (at IND). It’s another revenge game for Gore that he won’t do much with volume.
All giants (against SF). Including Devonta Freeman, should he be playing with Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman, it’s New York, New York, bank, bank, bank.
WEEK 3 DFS TOURNAMENT LINEUPS: Yahoo | DraftKings | FanDuel
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who should start: Broad recipients
Michael Thomas, Saints (if he plays against GB), Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, Falcons (against CHI), Davante Adams, Packers (if he plays, at NO, Tyreek Hill Chiefs (at BAL), Chris Godwin and Mike Evans , Buccaneers (at DEN), DeAndre Hopkins, Cardinals (against DET), Kenny Golladay, Lions (when he comes back, at ARI), Allen Robinson, Bears (at ATL), JuJu Smith-Schuster, Steelers (against HOU), AJ Brown, Titans (when he comes back, at MIN), DJ Moore, Panthers (at LAC), Adam Thielen, Wikinger (against TEN), Amari Cooper, Cowboys (at SEA), Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, Browns (against WAS), Cooper Kupp, Rams (at BUF), Tyler Lockett and DK Metcalf, Seahawks (against DAL), DJ Chark, Jaguars (at TEN), Terry McLaurin, Washington (at CLE), Keenan Allen, chargers (against CAR) , Stefon Diggs, Bills (against LAR), Julian Edelman, Patriots (against LV)
CeeDee Lamb, Cowboys (at SEA). Lamb senses it in his eleven employees along with Amari Cooper, and the rookie should be busy with Dak Prescott again.
Diontae Johnson, Steelers (v HOU). He’s a solid number 2 for her and can take advantage of another terrible secondary school.
Tre’Quan Smith, Saints (v GB). Smith played very well for Michael Thomas (ankle) in week 2 and is sure to be the shop steward should Thomas miss another game. Smith’s week 2 gig should get him more work in a great matchup, even if Thomas is playing.
Tyler Boyd, Bengals (at PHI). He’s locked up as Joe Burrow’s point of contact and should see a good volume in the middle of the field where the Eagles are battling for coverage.
Anthony Miller, Bears (at ATL). He was hidden last week as Chicago didn’t throw enough, but Trubisky faces the Hawks this week.
DeSean Jackson, Eagles (v CIN). He has a good shot to score a big goal against the Bengals’ weaker cornerbacks.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Packers (at NO). He will remain an important part of their game plan against a shaky secondary school regardless of whether Davante Adams (thigh) plays.
Mike Williams, Chargers (versus CAR). The Panthers can’t cover deep strokes either, so he should come on the board with a big game and a TD.
Michael Gallup, Cowboys (at SEA $ 5,500 at DraftKings, $ 5,700 at FanDuel). It’s overdue for a big play TD himself, and that price is too good for a Seahawks secondary player to give up downfield shots.
Jerry Jeudy, Broncos (vs. TB, $ 5,000 at DraftKings, $ 5,300 at FanDuel). Jeudy has a limited cap but he should dominate Jeff Driskel’s goals without Courtland Sutton (knee). So prepare for the trash.
Corey Davis, Titans (at MIN $ 5,200 at DraftKings, $ 5,300 at FanDuel). Davis hung up 100 yards in Week 1 and scored in Week 2 when A.J. Brown (knee) was out. Viking secondary school stinks and can’t cover him or Brown well.
Michael Pittman Jr., Colts (against NYJ), Keelan Cole, Jaguare (at MIA), Golden Tate, Giants (against SF)

Fantasy Football Week 3 Who sits: Broad recipients
Robert Woods, Rams (at BUF). He’ll likely be drawing Tre’Davious White.
Marquise Brown, Ravens (versus KC). The chiefs are distinguished by the fact that they contain large pieces. So don’t think about what Brown can do for you.
T.Y. Hilton, Colts (v NYJ). Even without Parris Campbell (ankle), he’s hard to trust compared to Michael Pittman Jr.
A.J. Green, Bengals (at PHI). The Eagles’ onslaught on the Eagles won’t give Joe Burrow time to find him out enough.
Marvin Jones Jr., Lions (at ARI). He scored in week 2 but hasn’t done much without Kenny Golladay (thigh).
John Brown, bills (versus LAR). He might get Jalen Ramsey more than you think compared to Stefon Diggs, who can also work more away from Ramsey in the slot.
Will Fuller and Brandin Cooks, Texans (at PIT). Fuller was pushed to the ravens and blanked out while Cooks performed. Cooks and Fuller are not viable against this Steelers secondary school.
Darius Slayton, Giants (versus SF). Daniel Jones often wants to give him the ball, but without Sterling Shepard (toe) it just got harder to get the attention.
Robby Anderson, Panthers (at LAC). The chargers have the corners to accommodate it.

Fantasy Football Week 3 Who to Start: Tight Ends
Travis Kelce, Chiefs (at BAL), George Kittle, 49ers (when he plays, at NYG), Mark Andrews, Ravens (against KC), Zach Ertz, Eagles (against CIN), Darren Waller, Raiders (at NE), Tyler Higbee, Rams (at BUF), Hunter Henry, Chargers (against CAR), Jonnu Smith, Titans (at MIN)
Jared Cook, Saint (v. GB). Cook scored in Week 2 to save his worth in the # 1 game of revenge. Here is the promising sequel.
Hayden Hurst, Falcons (v CHI). The bears struggle to cover the narrow end and center of the field in general.
T.J. Hockenson, Lions (at ARI). He was hot and now plays the team he lit to start his rookie season.
Mike Gesicki, Dolphins (at JAX). It exploded as a hybrid slot in week 2 and the Jaguars had all sorts of problems with the tight end early on.
Noah Fant, Broncos (against TB). After a great second week he looks like the clear contact person for Jeff Driskel.
Mo Alie-Cox, Colts (v NYJ). If Jack missed Doyle (ankle) again, Philip Rivers would deal with this guy.
Logan Thomas, Washington (CLE $ 3,700 at DraftKings, $ 4,900 at FanDuel). Thomas had nine goals against the Cardinals but couldn’t quite hit Paydirt. The Browns have big problems with narrow end coverage so it’s worth trying for another trip to the end zone.
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who sits: Tight ends
Evan Engram, Giants (versus SF). Engram struggles with his drops again and the 49ers manage to wipe him out.
Rob Gronkowski and O.J. Howard, privateer (at DEN). This committee has so far been even worse than the imagination imagined.
Chris Herndon, Jets (at IND). Do you remember his breakout season hype? We don’t either.
Jimmy Graham, Bears (at ATL). You hope he scores a TD and there is not enough hope.
Jordan Akins, Texan (at PIT). Put it among Houston players you don’t want to trust Heinz Field.
Austin Hooper, Browns (versus WAS). He doesn’t do much to warrant a fantasy launch with his new team.
Dalton Schultz, Cowboys (at SEA). Don’t keep track of his abnormal boxing score. The Seahawks game is going to be a big wide receiver game for Dallas.
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who to Start: Defense
Steelers (against HOU), 49ers (against NYG), Colts (against NYJ), Chargers (against CAR), Buccaneers (against DEN), Cardinals (against DET), Patriots (against LV), Browns (against). WAR)
Eagles (vs. CIN, $ 2,800 at DraftKings, $ 4,500 at FanDuel). They were disappointing and unplayable for the first two weeks. You can get a couple of sacks and maybe a burrow or two interception at home.
Fantasy Football Week 3 Who sits: Defense
Bills (against LAR), Rams (with BUF), Titans (with MIN), Bears (with ATL), Ravens (against KC), Chiefs (with BAL), Washington (with CLE), Saints (against GB)
