LeBron James declined to talk about the Clippers after they were eliminated from the NBA playoffs when the Lakers superstar marveled at his team’s upcoming opponent, the Nuggets.
A Los Angeles Western Conference blockbuster final was knocked down by the Rally Nuggets, who picked up a 3-1 deficit against the runner-up Clippers to kick off a clash with the Lakers.
When asked if Kawhi Leonard’s Clippers shouldn’t play for a place in the NBA finals, three-time champion James told reporters on Thursday: “I really have no comment on that.
“I just sat back and watched [Clippers-Nuggets Game 7] From a fan’s point of view, you see big shots being made, big games being made, missed shots, things like that. I was too [watching] Scout both teams at the same time as a scout. “
A follow-up question was about the Lakers and Clippers who had settled their struggle for supremacy in Los Angeles, but James replied, “What did we fix?”
James’ team-mate Anthony Davis added, “We’re not focusing on any other team than the Lakers. We have been, our whole thing all season. We’ve been focusing on our own team.
“Our focus isn’t on the Clippers or the ‘Battle of LA’. It’s more like what we can do to end our season strong.”
James and Davis spoke between the Lakers with the Best Seed and the Nuggets on the eve of Game 1 at the Walt Disney World Resort outside of Orlando, Florida.
The Nuggets overwhelmed the shocked Clippers when they became the first team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 deficit and win streaks twice in the same postseason. They gathered past the jazz in the first round.
Led by Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic, the Nuggets will play their first conference final since losing to the Lakers in 2009.
“Very resilient, very self-confident, very motivated, very well trained team,” said James when he praised the Nuggets with third place on the grid.
“It takes a lot of energy, effort and desperation to come back from a 3-1 deficit. You did it twice,” he added. “So the level of respect we have for what we have for this ball club is out of this world. This is how we go into this series: to understand what they are capable of, where they are.”
