The NBA added a new element to the 2020 playoffs as the pandonavirus pandemic shortened the season.
The rule for the seeding games was: If a team has finished four or fewer games from number 8 in a conference, it has the option of reaching the playoffs via a play-in tournament. There was no such scenario in the Eastern Conference, but in the Western Conference we get a (short) series between the Trail Blazers and the Grizzlies.
This streak could only last one game if the Trail Blazers can win on Saturday afternoon. But if the Grizzlies win, the streak goes to a second and final game in which the winner can earn a playoff spot. That basically covers it, but we explain the whole situation in more detail here.
NBA fans will be able to enjoy this short streak between the Trail Blazers and Grizzlies before the official start of the NBA Playoffs on Monday, August 17th.
